There is no official conversion. What you can do is compare the body measurements each chart is cut for. That is what the tables below do.

Girls’ ages vs women’s sizes

The table picks the smallest Next size whose bust measurement covers the child's chest. On these two charts, girls' 12 and 13 years match a women's 6, 14 years an 8, and 15–16 years a 10–12 by bust. Check the waist too: John Lewis's 16 years girls' waist (69 cm) sits between Next's 8 (67.5 cm) and 10 (71 cm), so many teens are a smaller size on the waist than the bust.

Next's men's casual sizes start at XXS (76–81.5 cm chest). On these charts a 12 year old boy matches XXS, 13–15 year olds XS, and 16 year olds S. Men's trousers start at a 26 in (66 cm) waist at Next, which is smaller than the 70.5 cm John Lewis gives for a 13 year old boy.

UK shoe sizes carry straight on from children's into adult: a size 4 is a 4 in either range. Width and shape can differ, so try adult styles on. See the shoe size chart.

Questions

What is age 13–14 in women’s sizes?

By bust, John Lewis’s 13 and 14 years girls’ sizes (80 and 82.5 cm chest) fit Next’s women’s 6 and 8. Measure, as teens vary a lot.

What is age 15–16 in men’s sizes?

John Lewis’s 15 and 16 years boys’ sizes (89 and 91.5 cm chest) are around XS to S in Next men’s sizes.
